A WEEKEND IN SAN DIEGO

Labor Day has gone and past which signals the end of summer... sadness. However, to ring in this rather "I wish this day would never come" event, my family and I took a weekend getaway to beautiful sunny laid-back San Diego.

San Diego is port city on the Southern California coast only some few hours drive away from the U.S.-Mexican border. Its economy is largely based on port activities ranging from imports and exports as well as the U.S. Navy.

The hotel that we stayed at was the Hilton Bayfront hotel located in downtown SD on the bay. It is only a 5 minute walk from the Gaslamp District and steps away from the San Diego Convention Center and Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. This hotel is definitely super convenient if you are ever in town for a game or convention.

Gaslamp District has a huge variety of restaurants to choose from as well as shopping and nightlife.

About a 30 minute walk from the hotel was Seaport Village, a cute collection of small cottages selling souvenirs and quaint eateries lining the San Diego bay.

Dining:

  • Phil's BBQ - great classic all-American southern BBQ (doesn't come around that often in this part of the US)
  • The Mission (Gaslamp) - brunch with Mexican influence. Definitely recommend the French toast. Not too sweet but still thick and hearty nonetheless. They use cinnamon bread as their base. Coffee is good as well.
  • Extraordinary Desserts - it's all in the name.
There will be a dedicated post to The Mission coming up soon!
